A few seconds after delivering a baby the medical practitioner is able to identify the physical orientation, behavior and gender of the newborn baby. From that moment the baby is described as either male or female, but in some unfortunate circumstances the child can be called neither due to absence of the reproductive organs or presence of both organs. In the case where both sexual organs are present, the hormonal influence is monitored until the doctor can determine which hormonal features are more dominant. Then the doctor can advise the parents on choosing the gender of their child. As the child grows, he or she may start to feel as though the gender assigned at birth isn’t the right one. In such cases, the individual basically portrays a different identity and expression of gender as compared to their decided gender. Transgender is a term that would describe the behavior that is shown by the individual in comparison to their birth gender, how they express themselves, and probably how their mind identifies themselves.
Many individuals in today’s society have been opting to change their gender due to reasons that they alone can understand and basically fail to express to those who require answers to their new choice. The term transgender is generally confused with the term transsexual. The term transsexual normally arises as a result of failure to identify the actual gender of an individual at birth. Therefore this term is basically a medical error that simply requires correction. Transgender surgery can be done at any age in both male and female after one has actually decided they are ready for such a transformation. The surgery department normally provides this help to individuals by reassignment or alignment of the gender to the individual.
Relatives and friends may find it rather weird and difficult to accept such a decision, but in the end with the help of psychologists and therapy they can come to terms with the changes. After the Gender Transformation, people around such individuals are advised to use correct language expressions, be supportive, to ask questions so as to understand the individuals’ point of view, to avoid feeling sorry for them, and most of all to avoid discrimination as well as appreciate the new form of identity and dress code. It is clear that society still finds such changes difficult to accept, but it would be better to try and understand the person’s view about why they decided to make such a decision.
